I have noticed questions about whether using practices or beliefs from other religions in your own is disrespectful. I think what most people do not realize is that there are no completely original religions in the modern world. All religions are built from other religions or cultures. What makes it disrespectful is if it is done to destroy those other religions, such has been done by “conquering” religions of the past. Usually, if one is incorporating another practice or deity into their own spirituality, it is because it has meaning and importance.

I think there is also the idea that somehow paganism is an inferior spirituality and therefore pagans incorporating other practices into their own is inherently disrespectful. I would say though, if you are going to incorporate other practices, it is best to have a complete understanding of them and their importance to those faiths. Also, never act as though you have a particular special knowledge of that practice, that’s arrogant and disrespectful.

fuckyeahpaganism:

This is beautiful.

I don’t think there are that few pagans who practice solitary, quietly and in their own way. It’s just doesn’t make for exciting books or imagery so you don’t hear about it as much. And knowing that your goddess loves and accepts you for everything you are beats a spell any day.
Blessed Be.

I’ve opened an Etsy store! It is Every Single Stitch by Agatespen. At the moment I am selling tiny stocking ornaments I crocheted. Order in the next few days and I can get them to you by Christmas.
After Christmas I have some pagan things I am going to put up including some tiny polymer Willendorf goddesses (that may go up sooner), crocheted tarot bags and some picture necklaces.

Looky, looky, looky. I finally have a full altar again! We cleaned out the storage room to put my stuff into. I am hoping there will still be half of a room for me to write, do art and crafts, but I am loosing that hope as things go in, but I will at least have this. Felt so good putting this up. Blessed Be!
edit: Ignore the abomination of wall paper behind it, I may have to put some fabric up. The previous owners of the house loved wall paper, usually the most horrific available during the 80’s. Every wall was covered, this is the only room that still has it.

Today I went to the Gem and Jewelry show (AKA the Gem and Rock show, I guess only rockhounds and pagans appreciate this title). At the show, not only are there lots of stones, crystals and things to make jewelry with, but there are some fantastic displays as well. I forgot to bring my camera in at first and had to go out and get it, and then it was almost dead so I had to snap pictures quickly before the battery was finished. The displays were behind glass so you can see my reflection in a lot of the pictures, but I didn’t have time to try and frame them better. Aren’t the agates spectacular (okay so I am partial) and those eggs, that pyrite one was really fantastic in person. I may go back tomorrow. I shouldn’t because I spent $25 today on pretty rocks and crystals, but there are a few more things I’d like to take pictures of. One vendor had an ammonite fossil about a foot in diameter that had a red glow on its durface as it reflected the light.
At my first vendor I bought a small tektite. It is the first of those I have ever bought. He collects them and his whole stand was tektites and books about meteorites. At the second stand I bought two quartz crystal formations (one as a gift for Kindra) and a nice slab of labradorite (check out the glow it has).
At the next stand I bought two ammonites and an aragonite formation. He had some really nice stones and crystals. Also one of the displays I took pictures of were his (the large citrine quartz crystal slab and the big ammonite that looked like stone were part of his collection)
I bought one more stone before I decided I had probably spent enough. I thought it could be petrified wood, so I never asked, but looking at it again, it may be a piece of picture jasper. If I go back tomorrow I may ask her.
Being in a room of crystals is exhilarating and I got a bot of a headache that went away as soon as I left the building.
In the event program they tell about where the local gem and stone group meets and when. I am thinking I may got to a meeting. I would love to do some rockhounding on my own.

So recently I mentioned how the small statue of Nuit brought me to tears. I felt compelled to try and recreate Her on paper. Today I bought some white pastel pencils. I did some things differently in my drawing and I may work with it a bit more before I feel it is done, but here She is for tonight. I think she is pretty cool. Blessed Be!

Here was my Samhain altar. It felt strange yet really good to do a ritual again. I honored my mother who passed last year and spoke to Goddess, danced around the circle, offered up my prayers and even blessed and charged an amulet. The house smells like burnt rosemary because I used dried rosemary stems as incense. I feel really good right now. It is wonderful to reconnect with Goddess. Blessed Be to you all.

We need to talk about the patterns for those doilies (or how would you call them ?) …

The pentacle doily is a filet pattern I designed a long while back, but basically a cross stitch pattern with a thick border will work. The one under Kwan Yin is actually from a pattern book named “Painted Mini Doilies” from Annie’s Attic. The pattern book uses sewing thread, but I upped the size by using size 10 bamboo crochet thread.

I dressed as a hipster witch today for school. My crocheted slouchy beanie is actually triangular shaped and comes to a point at the end. The brim can’t be too wide because that would be too mainstream. The sunglasses were my mom’s, vintage 80’s.

So my day consisted of these. I drove to Folsom and my favorite metaphysical store Planet Earth Rising. It is amazing how relaxing it is to walk into that store. The smell of incense, the glitter of crystal and that feeling that I am not out of place. I could spend hours wandering around. Today I spent about an hour. I can for stones and crystals and found a bit more. For some reason I needed bells and they sound so pretty and delicate. The candle holders were the last thing I found. One is for me and the other is a Yule gift for my friend Kindra. The glittery blue stone is for my sister. She is not pagan, but she’ll like the stone. The stones I bought are crystal points, green and honey calcite, labradorite, apatite, chalcedony, fuchsite mica, blue goldstone, and the lavender one I think is called charoite. I have a hard time remembering the names of the stones I’ve never seen before.

While I was there I saw a small statue of the goddess Nuit. She looked so beautiful and for some reason I cried a bit. I think it’s because I have been so disconnected from Goddess for so long that I was sad.

I am so looking forward to Samhain and my ritual.

I wasn’t liking the soft pastels in drawing class, but I think that may be because the were shades of black and gray, because tonight I did this as an experiment to see how the colored ones work and I like it. Still very messy, which is what I have hated most about the soft pastels.

I posted this on my crafting blog tonight, but she belongs here. Check out the labrys.

Why take the lives of innocent children? The terrible totality of the destruction was undoubtedly related to the prohibition of assimilation to pagan nations on Israel’s part. In commanding complete destruction of the Canaanites, the Lord says, ‘You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons, or taking their daughters for your sons, for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods’.… God knew that if these Canaanite children were allowed to live, they would spell the undoing of Israel.… Moreover, if we believe, as I do, that God’s grace is extended to those who die in infancy or as small children, the death of these children was actually their salvation. We are so wedded to an earthly, naturalistic perspective that we forget that those who die are happy to quit this earth for heaven’s incomparable joy. Therefore, God does these children no wrong in taking their lives…. So whom does God wrong in commanding the destruction of the Canaanites? Not the Canaanite adults, for they were corrupt and deserving of judgment. Not the children, for they inherit eternal life. So who is wronged? Ironically, I think the most difficult part of this whole debate is the apparent wrong done to the Israeli soldiers themselves. Can you imagine what it would be like to have to break into some house and kill a terrified woman and her children? The brutalising effect on these Israeli soldiers is disturbing.

That anyone could justify the murder of children…I’ll file it under “Another good reason not to be Christian”.
